This talk presents the research results of the past 10 years on ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) technologies and applications in indoor localization by our research group in School of EEE, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The research activities include UWB antennas, high peak power with ultra low power consumption UWB-IR transmitters and receivers, UWB-RFID system architectures and applications in indoor localization. State of the art results are presented for a UWB-RFID localization system in terms of power consumption and range.

DrLAW Choi Look received his BEng and PhD degrees from King’s College, London in 1983 and 1987 respectively. From 1986 to 1988, he was a senior research engineer at ERA technology inUK. He joined the school of EEE, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 1988 where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Communication Engineering Division. He was the founding director of the Positioning and Wireless Technology Centre in 2000. His research interests are in ultra-wideband microwave circuit characterization, design and modeling, wideband channel characterization and effects on high speed wireless communication, radio frequency identification, wireless networking and positioning systems. He co-founded RFNET in 2001 specializing in wireless LAN and RFID products and services. He has given numerous continuing educational courses to industries and acted as consultant to a number of companies and government agencies. He has published over 190 international conference and journal papers with over 1500 citations in Scopus and over 2900 citations in Google Scholar with H-index = 26. Dr Law is a senior member of IEEE.
